Diary of a lovesick Italian teenager (in the sixteenth century)

This innovative performance takes a light-hearted look at rehashed tropes about teenagers, diarists and Italians, in a short concert of music interspersed with imagined diary readings.

Come in, and you’re faced with six bored teenagers.

Their wake-up call is an onomatopoeic piece from the early 1500s by Clement Jannequin featuring the squawking, tweeting and trills of French birdsong.

Thoughts of romance and possibly marriage move us into the sixteenth century with English music by Thomas Vautor and William Byrd.

As true love blossoms the Italians take over, with pieces by Orlando di Lasso and the great Claudio Monteverdi.

Then we return to English music with a piece by Thomas Tomkins that could have been written for a sulky teenager.

Fee: £400

Audience reviews

“It is definitely the most accessible and relaxed concert I have been to in some time.”

“With the standard and style it won’t take long to get a following and also interest people in the music itself. It’s not the content, because that is fab, just getting people to know you are there.”

“Not understating how much I enjoyed that as someone who just wanted to hear lovely music in a Saturday night.”
